DMCC vs DIFC is really a question of what you do. DIFC is Dubai's international financial centre, with its own English common-law courts and its own financial regulator. DMCC is Dubai's largest commercial free zone, built for trading, commodities, professional services and technology. Pick the one that matches your activity and you will usually also pick the cheaper option.

When DIFC is the right answer
- You need a DFSA licence: banking, investment advice, fund management, brokerage or insurance.
- Investors or counterparties require common-law contracts and DIFC Courts.
- You are building a wealth structure that specifically needs DIFC vehicles, such as a DIFC foundation.
When DMCC is the better choice
- You trade physical goods, especially commodities, gold, diamonds, coffee or tea.
- You run a consultancy, agency, tech, crypto or gaming business that does not need a DFSA licence.
- You want a lower entry cost with a flexi desk, and up to 3 visas, on a package such as Jump Start.
- You want a holding company or SPV without DIFC-level running costs.
Our honest view: if your business is not regulated financial services, DIFC usually means paying for a legal and regulatory framework you will not use. If it is, DMCC cannot give you a DFSA licence, so DIFC (or ADGM in Abu Dhabi) is the right home.
Cost: what DMCC officially charges
DMCC publishes its prices. One-time fees are AED 12,055 (application, registration and Articles of Association), and a standard trading or service licence is AED 20,285 a year. Most founders buy a package instead: Basic Biz at AED 35,484 or Jump Start at AED 43,780 including a flexi desk. Run your own numbers in the DMCC cost calculator, then compare it with a written DIFC quote that includes workspace.
