The DMCC company formation process is one of the smoothest in the UAE because it is almost entirely online through the DMCC member portal. With documents ready, the licence itself can be issued in roughly 7–10 working days; a full launch including banking and visas usually takes four to six weeks. Here is the exact sequence.
Step 1 — Reserve your company name
Submit up to a few preferred names through the DMCC portal. Names must follow UAE naming rules (no offensive terms, no unapproved abbreviations). This step usually clears in 1–2 days.
Step 2 — Initial approval
Apply for pre-approval, uploading shareholder passport copies, a short professional background/CV and your proposed business activities. DMCC reviews the application, typically within 3–5 business days. Regulated activities (precious metals, financial services, crypto) may need extra approvals here.
Step 3 — Choose your office or flexi desk
You must have a workspace before the licence is issued. Most new companies take a flexi desk (which also sets your initial visa quota at up to three). Sign the lease and DMCC attaches it to your application.
Step 4 — Licence issuance
Once documents and payment are in, DMCC issues your trade licence — usually within 5–7 business days of a complete submission. At this point your company legally exists and you receive your incorporation documents and establishment card.
Step 5 — Visas and bank account
With the establishment card active, you process residence visas (about 2–4 weeks each, often in parallel) and open your corporate bank account (typically 2–4 weeks depending on the bank’s compliance checks). These two run alongside each other to save time.
Realistic overall timeline
| Milestone | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Name reservation | 1–2 days |
| Initial approval | 3–5 days |
| Licence issuance | 5–7 days |
| Licence live (subtotal) | ~7–10 working days |
| Visas + banking | +2–4 weeks |
| Fully operational | ~4–6 weeks |
What causes delays (and how to avoid them)
Nine times out of ten, delays come from incomplete or inconsistent documents — a passport nearing expiry, a name that breaches naming rules, or an activity that needs an external regulator’s sign-off the founder didn’t anticipate. Getting your activity list and documents right before you file is the single biggest time-saver, which is exactly where working with a DMCC specialist pays for itself.

How long does DMCC company formation take?
The licence is typically ready in 7–10 working days with complete documents; full setup including visas and banking usually takes four to six weeks.
Do I need to be in Dubai to set up a DMCC company?
Much of the process is remote, but at least one signatory usually needs to be in the UAE for the medical, Emirates ID biometrics and, for many banks, an in-person account interview.
What documents do I need to start?
At minimum: passport copies of all shareholders, a brief CV/background, proof of address and your intended activities. Regulated sectors need additional approvals.
